Instagram: 5 Interesting facts you need to know
1) Instagram launched as an iPhone app in Apple's App Store on October 6, 2010. By December 2010, Instagram had one million registered users. By July 2011, Instagram users had shared over 100 million photographs. It reached 10 million registered users in September that year. The number had hit 30 million by April 20122) On April 12, 2012, Facebook acquired Instagram for approximately $1 billion in cash and stock. The deal, which was made just before Facebook was scheduled to go public, cost Facebook about a quarter of the cash-on-hand they had as of the end of 2011.
3) Instagram released a 15 second video component to their platform on June 20, 2013. Within the first 24 hours, 5 million videos were uploaded. However, Fortune 500 companies have been reluctant to adopt video. Only 4% of adopted video thus far.
4) Kevin Systrom one of the co-founder of Insagram initially was offered a job at Google and interned at Odeo, where Twitter was developed but he refused. Again in 2004, Mark Zuckerberg offered Kevin Systrom an opportunity to join Facebook but he turned the offer down and later accepted the whooping sum of $500 million after Facebook acquired Instagram for $1 billion in April 2012.
5) Apple named Instagram as app of the year for 2011 saying the app makes it "near-impossible to take a bad shot." Zuckerberg has confirmed that, despite the acquisition, Instagram will continue to run independent of Facebook, at least initially.
